According to facethefactsusa.org, "1.3 million elderly Americans live in nursing homes." They "often feel isolated and excluded," according to www.legacyproject.org, but "visiting nursing home residents can benefit both young and old." Kids can really "make a difference in an older person's life" (www.legacyproject.org).
When we visited the nursing home, we met lots of nice people. In November, we traced their hands and made them into turkeys for Thanksgiving. They thought we were really smart! In March, we took them coloring pages to decorate their rooms for Spring, and we also did some magic tricks for them. But you could also read, play cards, paint, or just talk. Older people are really cool!
Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. --Sally Koch http://www.quotegarden.com/helping.html
If you were in a nursing home, what would you want? Kids to come visit to brighten your day? Or sit there all alone? You choose.
